World number one Rory McIlroy has confirmed that he has recovered from his recent ankle ligament injury sufficiently to defend the US PGA Championship title he won last year.
The Northern Irishman told the Daily Mail, “If anything, my ankle feels even better when I swing hard.” He went on, “I’ve played a lot of golf since [The Open], just finding the middle of the clubface again. And I’ve been chipping and putting basically since it happened, with my protective boot on.”
McIlroy is currently the second favourite in the betting behind world number two Jordan Spieth, and the prospect of the two best players in the world facing off in the US PGA has man a golf fan salivating right now. Whether or not Rory will have what it takes to come straight back from injury to produce his A-game remains to be seen, of course, but you’ve got to be in it to win it, and we wouldn’t put it past him!
