Franklin Templeton Shootout Tips and Betting Offers, Tiburon Golf Club, Thursday 10th December
The PGA Tour may be on its winter break but there is still one more unofficial tournament to go before it all kicks off again in Hawaii in the New Year. After Tiger Woods’ hosted the Hero World Challenge last week it’s Greg Norman’s time to host his event, the Franklin Templeton Shootout. This is a truly unique event. For a start, the players compete in pairs and the event only runs for three days. The game type changes each day as well so while Thursday is a scramble, Friday’s round is alternate shot and it ends with a round of better ball on Saturday.
The Franklin Templeton Shootout has been running since 1989 and each year it’s been held around the Gold Course of Tiburon Golf Course. The 7,288 yard par 72 course is a tough test for most golfers but the different match styles played means that scoring is often pretty good. The fields here are also generally strong. Last year’s event was won by USPGA champion Jason Day and Cameron Tringale and previous winners here include Dustin Johnson, Masters legend Fred Couples and Jay Haas.
Day is not around to defend his title due to the birth of his daughter but there is plenty of quality in the 12 teams who have turned up to Florida. There are multiple major winners and players who have won over 10 times on the PGA Tour battling it out in this low key, fun tournament. The small field and the nature of the tournament means that this is has proven a tough tournament to predict in the past. However, betting on player with the right mentality for this week could just pay dividends.
The bookies’ favourites for the Franklin Templeton Shootout are J.B. Holmes and Patrick Reed and for good reason. Holmes is coming off the back of a very successful season. His won win of 2015 came at the Shell Houston Open but he was competitive in a number of big tournaments and will be one to watch next season. His partner, Reed, is one of the most talented of the 20-somethings who are trying to dominate the game. He has shown his class on both the PGA and European Tours and relished playing with a partner at the 2014 Ryder Cup. At 7/2 with BetVictor they certainly are the pair to beat.
The partnership of Jason Dufner and Brandt Snedeker could have exactly the right mental attributes to win this week. They both like to play the game at a good pace and smile their way around the golf course. The pair are friends and will both relish the relative lack of pressure of the Shootout. They’ll gee each other up and could end up as the tournament champions at odds of 11/1 with Coral (Coral review).
